XTRALIVING | GO GIRL GO

When a girl is educated and shown the right way, she influences a whole family when she grows up. It will improve 1.2 Crore families. This campaign will also be a platform to ensure women become strong and healthy and avert key diseases that come with a sedentary lifestyle. There is a need to encourage girls’ student to participate in sports.

Igniting a dream of representing India at the world stage like an Olympics tournament gives enough fuel for our school-going children to put in the effort to be fit, irrespective of the resources or the hurdles against taking it up as a habit. Additionally, there is no dearth of numerous female sport heroes like Mary Kom or Deepa Karmakar for young girls to look up to and emulate. The tide is slowing shifting, and we are seeing sparks of change across the country.

Central and state government is implementing various schemes to empower the girls for the sustained development. Girls empowerment is highly valued in the field of social sector.

Need #1: to create maximum long-term impact in the society by creating 1.2 crore healthy families.

Need #2: to educate young girls healthy habits related to exercise and nutrition at right age (6-13 years).

Need #3: to create conducive environment for sports and physical fitness.

Need #4: to reduce health concerns like obesity and anemia.

Parents and caregivers play a key role in not only making healthy choices for children and teaching children to make healthy choices for themselves. But in today’s busy world, this isn’t always easy. So the campaign offers parents and caregivers the tools, support and information they need to make healthier choices while instilling healthy eating habits in children that will last a lifetime.

Physical activity is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. In combination with healthy eating, it can help prevent a range of chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer, and stroke, which are the three leading causes of death. Physical activity helps control weight, builds lean muscle, reduces fat, promotes strong bone, muscle and joint development, and decreases the risk of obesity. Children need 60 minutes of play with moderate to vigorous activity every day to grow up to a healthy weight.

If this sounds like a lot, consider that eight to 18 year old adolescents spend an average of 7.5 hours a day using entertainment media including TV, computers, video games, cell phones and movies in a typical day, and only one-third of high school students get the recommended levels of physical activity. To increase physical activity, today’s children need safe routes to walk and bike ride to school, parks, playgrounds and community centers where they can play after school, and activities like sports, dance or fitness programs that are exciting and challenging enough to keep them engaged.

The campaign aims to increase opportunities for kids to be physically active, both in and out of school and to create new opportunities for families to move together.

  • Active Families: Engage in physical activity each day : a total of 60 minutes for children, 30 minutes for adults.
  • Active Schools: A variety of opportunities are available for schools to add more physical activity into the school day, including additional physical education classes, before–and afterschool programs, recess, and opening school facilities for student and family recreation in the late afternoon and evening.
  • Active Communities: Mayors and community leaders can promote physical fitness by working to increase safe routes for kids to walk and ride to school; by revitalizing parks, playgrounds, and community centers; and by providing fun and affordable sports and fitness programs.

For kids and teens goals are:

  • Physical activity: You need to be active 60 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, for 6 out of 8 weeks. As an alternative, you can count your daily activity steps using a pedometer (girls’ goal: 11,000; boys’ goal: 13,000).
  • Healthy eating: Each week, you’ll also focus on a healthy eating goal. There are eight to choose from, and each week you will add a new goal while continuing with your previous goals. By the end of the six weeks, you’ll be giving your body more of the good stuff it needs.

The importance of physical strength was ingrained in me from an early age as for many other young men and women growing up in conflicted North East India, but my first brush with the concept of a fitness regimen was at my engineering college in Bhopal. Following in the footsteps of a few seniors, I joined them for a workout at the gym. The experience left me exhilarated and a fitness enthusiast for life. In the 12 years post college I worked for various corporations and multi-national firms, and also earned a Masters in Business Administration. I spent time in different parts of India, assumed various roles and responsibilities, and learned about business best practices from great business leaders. All through these years I kept up a steady fitness regimen, taking out time for a workout even when there were exams or work deadlines to meet.

I grew up heavily involved in sports and training. I have been playing basketball, American football, track and field, baseball, and other sports since I was a kid. I started lifting weights with my dad when I was 13 and fell in love with it. I did a lot of bodybuilding at first and got in pretty good shape. Then, as I got more into competitive and professional sports, I needed different training to fit my sports goals. After I retired from American football, I needed some kind of training that could help me stay strong and fast, but also help me get really fit, so that I could go faster for longer. When I was in college at Kansas State University, I studied Nutrition and Kinesiology. Our Kinesiology program actually partners with Crossfit to help further the research for the sport and training. This is how I discovered it and learned more about the science behind it before I tried it myself. I tried my first Crossfit workout by myself in a YMCA gym. I tried a benchmark workout, called Diane.

When you love something so deeply, it comes to you naturally at some point of time in life” In the North-East region of India, everyone is taught that life will be successful only through education and academics is foremost. With that in mind, I successfully submitted my PhD thesis in the field of Nanoscience & Technology. And despite this, I participated and won District level Powerlifting competitions, right up to an ‘All India Inter-University Level. Yet, nothing has impacted the course of My life as much as CrossFit has, which happened when a friend of mine took me along as company for one of his CrossFit sessions. Nothing has ever, EVER, been as impactful as CrossFit has! Both, mentally and physically, I have just grown stronger, more disciplined than ever before. Crossfit is my foray into the wellness sector. This is where I can help people reach optimum health goals. And alongside this, i am working hard every single day, towards achieving the title of, ‘Fittest Man on Earth’. CrossFit rules!

Spending half of my childhood in the clutches of educational institutes like Narayana and Chaitanya trying to crack the IIT dream did not let me be the athlete I wanted to be. It was later in College that I got an opportunity to play Basketball for the team, credits to my height. I realised the importance of fitness when I started playing ball as it required a great deal of stamina and strength which got me inclined towards Calisthenics (Body weight training). I jumped into working for HSBC as a Software developer right after graduating in 2015. It took me two years to gather the courage to quit my comfortable 9-5 job to pursue my dream in a career of fitness. This was the time I stumbled upon CrossFit at the Devils Circuit obstacle race where Sandeep (X60 CrossFit L3 Coach) was conducting a workshop making participants workout at the event.

I’ve been newly introduced to the entire concept of CrossFit workout and honestly, it’s been a game-changer for me. Personally I get bored of workouts if they become monotonous, so working out at CrossFit box has helped me stay active with combinations of WODs that aren’t repetitive and get tougher and exciting by the day. I can genuinely notice my energy levels increasing, which in turn excites me to wake up and get to the box every day.

One of the main reasons that the CrossFit box has become a routine for me is their trainers. Their knowledge, amplified energy levels and genuine love for the form of training are extremely contagious. It helps to train under someone when their fitness levels and sheer enthusiasm motivates you every single time.

I love CrossFit because I never get bored as the workouts are different every single day. The WODs are short, efficient and performed at high intensity which has become part of my daily routine. At the end of the workout I like to update my scores in the app & when I look back, I can tell that I am getting stronger every day.Crossfit is the best place to go if you want to achieve your fitness goals. Squat clean and jerk is my favorite movement!

The best part about the coaching team is the way they focus on technique, posture correction, and their motivation to push me to put in the extra effort. I love how they appreciate the smallest victories. Big cheers to the coaching team at X60 Crossfit.
